Athlete are an indie-rock hailing from Deptford London that formed in 2000. Consisting of frontman Joel Pott bass-player Carey Willetts drummer Stephen Roberts and keyboard player Tim Wanstall the band first signed to Regal Recordings at the start of the millennium and put out their first single ‘Westside’ in February 2002.
One year on and they released their debut record ‘Vehicles and Animals’ peaking at #19 in the UK Albums chart and going on to become platinum certified. The band earned their first #1 album two years later with ‘Tourist’ (also platinum certified) and went on to put out two more records: ‘Beyond the Neighbourhood’ and ‘Black Swan’.
