Roger Waters, ex-bassist and vocalist for Pink Floyd, has revealed that the band were all set to hit the road for a full-scale world tour following their 2005 Live 8 reunion performance, right up until fellow frontman David Gilmore announced that he “wasn’t interested” in the idea.
If the decision had been up to Waters, a world tour would have got the go-ahead for Floyd, however, speaking to Associated Press, Roger Waters explained that fellow frontman David Gilmour is “completely disinterested” in any idea of a tour.
“David is completely uninterested. After Live 8, I could have probably gone for doing some more stuff, but he's not interested."
The biggest highlight of the historic Live 8 benefit concert was perhaps the memorable image of the band sharing a group hug following their outstanding four-song set. Their unannounced reunion at the 2005 concert marked an end to 25 years of silence with hostile frontmen Roger Waters and David Gilmour coming together with drummer Nick Mason and keyboard player Richard Wright to play ‘Speak To Me/Breathe’, ‘Money’, ‘Wish You Were Here’ and ‘Comfortably Numb’.
Speaking to the audience mid-way through their set, Waters had this to say about how he felt about the show. "It's actually quite emotional, standing up here with these 3 guys after all these years, standing to be counted with the rest of you."
Obviously moved by the performance, following the emotional last song of ‘Comfortably Numb’, Dave Gilmour thanked the audience and turned to walk off stage. As the guitarist left, Waters called him back onstage to share a group hug that has kept millions of Floyd fans anticipating another reunion.
Sadly, hopes of a full Floyd reunion were crushed in September 2008 when news broke that keyboardist Richard Wright had died. With Gilmour commenting that “no-one could replace Richard Wright”, the idea of Pink Floyd reunion seemed completely impossible.
Since then, Waters and Gilmour have again walked separate paths with Waters focusing on the forthcoming 30th anniversary tour of Floyd’s iconic album “The Wall”. Bassist Waters actually asked Gilmour to join him on the new tour, however he claims that his one-time bandmate is still “completely uninterested”.
Hopefully David Gilmour can be swayed into a reunion with ex-bandmate Roger Waters ready for next year’s tour? Perhaps one more time Dave? For old time’s sake? Pleeeeease!
