In poll commissioned by organisers of the GlobalGathering festival, UK dance stars The Prodigy have been recognised as the most influential band of their genre.
With last year’s release of latest album ‘Invaders Must Die’, The Prodigy are still growing from strength-to-strength. Formed in 1990, its a few years now since their most memorable classics such as ‘Out Of Space’, ‘Poison’, ‘Firestarter’ and ‘Breathe’ were first heard, however the trio continue to show no signs of taking their foot off the gas.
The BBC reports that The Prodigy won the poll with 29 percent of the votes received from 2,000 festival and club-goers, fighting off competition from French duo Daft Punk and Faithless, who both fell in second and third place respectively. Other acts appearing in the poll’s top 10 included Fatboy Slim, Carl Cox and the Chemical Brothers.
With album sales topping 20 million worldwide, The Prodigy’s adrenaline-pumping, stunning live shows have made them hugely popular on the world’s festival circuit, as GlobalGathering festival organiser James Algate explains.
"Dance music is constantly evolving but it's great to see the Prodigy getting the recognition they so richly deserve."
GlobalGathering celebrates its 10th anniversary this summer with headline acts Faithless and Dizzee Rascal already confirmed to top the bill at the festival, which takes place on July 30th, and 31st at Long Marston Airfield in Stratford Upon Avon.
