Sting has announced in a new interview with The Telegraph that he won’t be making any plans to re-form The Police again, stating that 2007’s reunion was a one-off.
Reuniting with old band-mates Andy Summers and Stewart Copeland for the group’s 30th anniversary, Sting has now completely ruled out another re-forming of the band, stating that their live shows in 2007 were carried out “purely as an exercise in nostalgia”.
In a recent interview with UK newspaper The Telegraph, Sting explained that another reunion is not something he feels he needs to do again. "I had an instinct that it was the right time to realise that asset, and I was right. But it wasn't easy ... I won't do it again. But I don't need to. I've done it now."
Sting is now currently busy making final preparations for his new UK tour which kicks off in October. The singer will play orchestral versions of his catalogue of music, starting with a two-night stint at London’s historic Royal Albert Hall.
The bassist continued to comment that although The Police reunion worked in 2007, he criticised that he couldn’t see anymore future for the trio. "There was nothing new in it, no new songs, no new energy, no desire to take that as a platform and move somewhere else. It was purely an exercise in nostalgia.”
He also explained an interesting theory on the reform, explaining, "people reacted to the Police coming back as if mum and dad had got together, you could see that emotion in the audience." He then went on to conclude with, “who really wants to go and live with the wife you divorced?"
Sting’s new album, ‘Symphonicities’, is based on his work with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and is released next week on July 19th.
