The one and only Roxy Music have announced their first tour in over a decade which coincides with the 40th anniversary of the hugely influential band.
Formed in 1970 by Bryan Ferry, Brian Eno, Andy Mackay and Paul Thompson, Roxy Music’s self-titled debut album was released in 1972 bringing a musical revolution of rock ‘n’ roll blended with electronic sound. The increasing use of synthesizers helped Roxy Music create a sound that was, at the time, described as otherworldly.
Shortly after the band’s second album ‘For Your Pleasure, synth-guru Brian Eno left Roxy Music while the band went on to create three more studio albums. All of which made the Top 5 within the UK charts.
A three-year gap then ensued with 1979 seeing the release of three new albums ‘Manifesto’, ‘Flesh and Blood’ and ‘Avalon’. The new records were a changing point for Roxy Music’s sound, with the band moving from their unique “art rock” to mainstream pop.
Roxy Music return next year with a series of initial dates announced for early 2011. The group are set to begin the UK tour in January, kicking-off in Newcastle on January 25th. The tour will then hit some of the countries biggest arenas in Birmingham and Nottingham before a show at London’s O2 arena on February 7th. More dates are expected to follow soon.
