One of the most popular alternative rock bands of the 1990’s, Goo Goo Dolls, have announced a UK tour for November this year.
Forming in New York city, in 1986, The Goo Goo Dolls have notched up an impressive 17 top 10 singles during their career, as well as selling nearly 9 millions albums in the United States alone.
Knocking back critics who claimed that the group was merely a copy-cat band of other active bands of their time, The Goo Goo Dolls refined their sound for the mainstream and became a hugely popular mainly through radio play. Landing two massive hits with acoustic ballads “Name” and “Iris,” which spent nearly a year on the Billboard charts and an amazing 18 weeks at Number One, their popularity soared and thus followed a string of Top Ten singles.
Studio sessions for the band’s ninth album ‘Something for the Rest of Us’ began in spring 2009 and although the album was set for release in February 2010 the group decided that a few changes needed to made last minute and returned to the studio in January earlier this year.
With the album now set for August release, the band has now announced an autumn tour to showcase their new material across the UK. Kicking-off in Newcastle, the eight-date O2 Academy run will close with a performance in Leicester on 17th November.
