The Littlemores EP Launch at Fibbers, York - (Live Review)

Can these guys do any wrong? Winning the Battle Of The Bands, releasing a brilliant EP and then playing the most amazing headline gig.

On Friday the 30th July, Fibbers in York hosted The Littlemores EP launch party as the four piece provided the crowd with a memory which is sure to last. I have seen these guys play a few times before, I have also championed their fantastic EP Idle Idols II, however on Friday they blew me away and played, what can only be described as one of the best gigs I have ever seen and I am ever likely to see.

The group’s manager, David Howard assured me after the gig, that The Littlemores can do better, well I duly hope I am there to witness that, because as far as I am concerned Friday night was perfect, its only fault, that time had to be called. I would still be sat there now listening if I could.

The group played a 45 minute set, which included the 5 tracks from their EP plus some of the other tracks which the groups have in their ever growing back catalogue and a few adaptations of classics, which they somehow managed to quite brilliantly blend into their own tracks. Octopus’s Garden, by The Beatles transformed into a track of their own. Wow!

They played as perfect and as tight as possible, Jack’s drumming brilliant and timed to perfection. Kai’s bass as deep and warm as ever, Conor’s guitar playing, truly amazing and Ben’s additions with accordion, drum box and trumpet, the icing on the delicious cake. The crowd absolutely loved it and the group crammed the small venue full of fans, which created an electric atmosphere and the onstage presence from the group was almost as good as the sound itself, as they fed off the atmosphere and really played the crowd with their energetic set of ska, indie, mod and punk infused brilliance that I am not even going to dare to put into a genre, apart from to say that they play guitar music as well as anybody right now.

Conor’s vocals were on top form as well as the instruments, the quality and sound from both elements were right on the money from start to finish. He belted out his extremely well written lyrics with passion and a real confidence. The passage of military style drumming and trumpet playing during ‘For The Lads’ was one of many highlights, the atmosphere created at that point was something quite special and Conor’s beautiful guitar solo during ‘Obsession’ made the hair on the back of my neck stand up. Finishing with their very own anthem ‘Larry’ was a master stroke and certainly left the crowd with a hook filled lyrical masterpiece ringing in their ears.

There are not enough superlatives to give this group regarding their performance. This young, exciting group have everything that they need to succeed, they seem to grow in confidence and get better and better with every performance although, how they will top that I do not know.

The Littlemores have two festival sets coming up at the Moor Music Festival on the 12th August and at Galtres Festival on the 28th August. Anybody going is in for a treat. The Littlemores are truly amazing.
