Word-of-mouth indie phenomenon The Boxer Rebellion are to star in, and feature on the soundtrack of the new Drew Barrymore film 'Going the Distance'.
Out with cheesy string arrangements, over the top orchestral meandering or sickeningly 'heartfelt' indie-pop and in with a film soundtrack for true music fans - the soundtrack to new film 'Going the Distance' certainly does go the extra mile.
Released on August 23rd on CD and digital formats, the soundtrack includes new music from The Boxer Rebellion and The Airborne Toxic Event and also boasts a great mix of indie-rock tastemakers such as Cat Power, Band of Skulls, Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros and Passion Pit, interspersed with songs from The Cure, The Pretenders and The Replacements among others.
In what is without question one of the biggest-ever band placements in a major motion picture, The Boxer Rebellion star as themselves and perform two songs from their current album 'Union' as well as an exclusive new track, 'If You Run,' written especially for the film.
The London-based band, who have been described by NME as a band that 'can alter your life', gained critical attention by breaking into the Billboard and iTunes Charts on a self-released album and have amassed an incredibly loyal and ever-expanding fanbase. 'If You Run' will be supported by a music video of the band's full performance taken from the movie.
The movie 'Going the Distance', a long distance comedy starring Drew Barrymore and Justin Long, hits the cinemas in the UK on August 27th.

The film centres around Drew Barrymore's character Erin, who's wry wit and unfiltered frankness charms newly single Garrett (played by Justin Long) over beer, bar trivia and breakfast the next morning. Their chemistry sparks a full-fledged summer fling, but neither expects it to last once Erin heads home to San Francisco and Garrett stays behind for his job in New York City. But when six weeks of romping through the city inadvertently becomes meaningful, neither is sure they want it to end.
The Boxer Rebellion are currently working on their third studio album, produced by Ethan Johns, which is due for release in early 2011.
