Having just played a storming support slot for Kings of Leon at last weekend V Festival, Welsh rockers Stereophonics have announced two special “classic album” shows for London this October.
The two special gigs will see the Stereophonics perform their first two albums ‘Word Gets Around’ and ‘Performance And Cocktails’ live at two separate shows at London’s HMV Hammersmith Apollo. The shows will also feature the B-sides attached to each album too.
Following the tragic news that ex-bandmate Stuart Cable was found dead in his Aberdare home in June, it has been a difficult summer for Stereophonics. Having to come to terms with the loss of their friend and former drummer, Kelly Jones, speaking before the Stereophonics’ hit-laden support slot at V Festival last weekend, spoke about Cable saying that “Stuart's always with us on stage and he's in the songs. He never goes away.”
Performing on the V Stage and playing a set that was packed full of their earlier-released hits including ‘Just Looking’, ‘Bartender and the Thief’ and ‘Local Boy In The Photograph’, Stereophonics wound the crowd up perfectly for headliners Kings of Leon.
The Welsh band appear to want to create the same atmosphere all over again later this year, having scheduled the two “classic album” shows for mid-October. The band will play their 1997 debut album ‘Word Gets Around’, complete with B-sides, on October 17th and their follow-up 1999 album ‘Performance And Cocktails’ on October 18th.
Stereophonics will play the following UK shows:
October 2010
17th HMV Apollo, Hammersmith, London
18th HMV Apollo, Hammersmith, London
Tickets for the two concerts go on sale at 9am on Friday 27th August.
