Superchunk Announce Details Of First Album In Ten Years 'Majesty Shredding'

Indie-rock luminaries Superchunkhave announced their first new album in almost ten years with the superbly-titled 'Majesty Shredding'.

Formed in 1989, Superchunk members Mac McCaughan and Laura Ballance have found, time tends to fly-by when you're running Merge Records, one of the biggest US independent record labels and home for the likes of Arcade Fire.

They may have intermittently played shows in the US since 2001 and released a handful of singles and EPs when time allowed, but 'Majesty Shredding' is the first full length studio album from the cult indie-rock group in nearly a decade. Since releasing their first 7-inch in 1989, Superchunk has run the gamut of milestone albums: early punk rock stompers, polished mid-career masterpieces, and lush, adventurous curveballs.

Conventional wisdom holds that a band two decades into its career can only rehash or reinvent, but with 'Majesty Shredding', Superchunk has done something entirely different. Neither a return nor a departure, 'Majesty Shredding' telescopes two decades into 41 indelible, action-packed minutes. It is the sound of youthful exuberance fine-tuned with grown-up confidence and it may very well be Superchunk’s best record yet.

Superchunk's new album 'Majesty Shredding' is due for release on September 14th.
