Sonic Youth Confirm Two UK December Shows & Tickets

American rock band Sonic Youth are to perform at this New Year's Eve at the Hammersmith Apollo in London. The will also appear the previous night in Manchester at the Manchester Academy.

Formed in New York City in 1981 Sonic Youth comprise of the collective talents of Thurston Moore (vocals and guitar), Kim Gordon (vocals, bass, guitar), Lee Ranaldo (vocals and guitar), Steve Shelley (drums), Mark Ibold (bass, guitar). Their sound is associated to the New York City No Wave art and music scene and the band was part of the first wave of American noise rock groups.

Gathering critical acclaim for their interpretation of the hardcore punk ethos throughout the evolving American underground, which focused more on the DI& ethic of the genre rather than its specific sound, Sonic Youth are recognised by some as a pivotal band in the rise of the alternative rock and indie rock movement.

The band have sighted artists ranging from Patti Smith to John Cage as influence to their music. They have also been praised for having “redefined what rock guitar could do”.

Sonic Youth will play the following UK shows:

December 2010

30th Academy, Manchester
31st HMV Hammersmith Apollo, London (Support from Shellac & Factory Floor)
