Ska superstars Madness have announced the release of their ‘Gogglebox’ DVD. The four-DVD package will contain more than seven hours of footage, featuring performances, interviews and other creative content.
The main feature is a sixty-four minute film, ‘The Liberty of Norton Folgate’, which is based on Madness’ 2009 release of the same title. The film was given a special screening last April at the London Independent Film Festival, where it was shown to a select audience of critics and a few lucky fans. Directed by Julien Temple, the movie is an elaborate concert film, centred on a show at the Hackney Empire, where a variety of dancers, actors and street performers were involved in an enormous creative set-up.
Although the film has only seen a handful of showings to date, a brief description of the film was given prior to the London Independent Film Festival:
“The inherent pop sensibility of Madness is woven through a sinuous journey of cultural reference and influence, to deliver a truly new chapter of pandemonium! Join artistes, musicians, orchestral ensembles, top hatted scoundrels, pearly kings & queens, ladies of the night and hundreds of dancing, skanking Londoners on a journey through Madness's musical past, present and future, culminating in a celebration of difference, of variety, and of the human spirit – a slice of urban magic.”
