It appears that pop sensation Katy Perry is well versed at getting her own back: the singer was axed from an appearance on Sesame Street earlier this Autumn for showing too much flesh, but has earned her revenge by cuddling up to America’s favourite cartoon family.
In a clear dig at the show which turned her down, Perry will play Elmo’s girlfriend, before eventually turning him down for the affections of Moe the bartender. The episode, entitled ‘The Fight Before Christmas’, will be a special one-off live action version of the famous cartoon, with all the characters being portrayed by puppets.
Instead of lending her voice to the show, as is tradition with all the biggest names in Hollywood, Perry will be filmed in the flesh (and with a lot of it showing, if promotional pictures are to be believed), even leading the cast in a rendition of ‘The 39 Days of Christmas’.
Al Jean, a producer on the show, couldn't help but fuel the fires on controversy after Perry’s defection to the yellow side: "In the wake of Elmo’s terrible betrayal, the Simpsons puppets wish to announce they stand felt-shoulder-to-shoulder with Katy Perry." The episode has been described as "an edgy, dysfunctional Christmas with the Simpsons with some disturbing twists." It will air in America on December 5th.
