It appears that British rapper Tinie Tempah is far more than just a flavour of the month. After gaining a number one album, four top ten singles and a MOBO award to his name, the grime artist has been earning some major attention from across the Atlantic.
Rap icon Jay-Z was the latest American star to sing the praises of Tinie Tempah this week, even going so far as to offer him a coveted spot on the Roc Nation roster. In an interview with Tin Westwood, Jay-Z said: "If Tinie wants to be super successful; he should come to Roc Nation. I've been hearing about him.”
Jay-Z, who was in London to promote his new memoirs ‘Decoded’, is not a man who makes promises lightly. A few years ago he made similar movements towards East London golden boy Kano, who eventually supported him on an American Tour and even ended up as a character in the ‘Def Jam: Icon’ video game.
Tinie Tempah (real name Patrick Okogwu) has not made any comments on the statements as of yet, but speculators should be sure that it is not an offer that the 22-year-old would turn down lightly. The Roc Nation label was founded in 2008 after Jay-Z stepped down as president of Def Jam, and currently holds high-profile artists such as Rihanna, Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars on its roster.
