Rancid's Matt Freeman to Tour UK with Side Project Devil's Brigade

Matt Freeman, the bassist with Californian punk rockers Rancid, is to tour the UK and Ireland in March 2011 with his new side project Devil's Brigade. The band will play ten dates, starting in Kingston Upon Thames on 2nd March and finishing at London's Borderline venue on 12th March. The tour will also include a date in Dublin on 5th March.

Freeman formed Devil's Brigade after work and touring was complete following Rancid's 2009 release 'Let the Dominoes Fall'. Devil's Brigade released their eponymous debut album in August this year, which featured contributions by Freeman's Rancid bandmates Tim Armstrong and Lars Frederiksen. Although Freeman is mainly known for his skilful basslines in Rancid, he has previously provided lead vocals on several of their songs and in Devil's Brigade, he is the lead singer and also plays the upright bass. The album was released through Tim Armstrong's label Hellcat Records.

Armstrong and Freeman formed Rancid in 1991 following the break-up of their previous band Operation Ivy. They have since released seven albums, including 1995's '...And Out Come The Wolves', which featured the single 'Time Bomb'. The band members have done a number of side projects in the past including Transplants - Armstrong's band with Blink 182 drummer Travis Barker - and Lars Frederiksen and the Bastards.
