Californian quintet Young The Giant have announced four London shows to mark the release their debut single 'Apartment', through Young & Lost Club on Monday, February 7th.
The band will make their UK live debut at the following dates:
Fri, Feb 4th - LONDON, Koko (Club NME)
Mon, Feb 7th - LONDON, Barfly
Tues, Feb 8th - LONDON, Water Rats
Wed, Feb 9th - LONDON, Proud Gallery (Music Week Breakout)
Some of you may have become familiar with the band off the back of the Daytrotter session they did just before Xmas. In case you missed it, you can catch it here and download your five-track live session from the gang.
Fast becoming a very big noise in the online world (just before Xmas they were #2 on We Are Hunted, for starters) the members of Young The Giant present a set of musical ideas as diverse and varied as their ethnic backgrounds. With Indian, Persian, British and French-Canadian heritage behind them, the band members yet share a sophisticated sensibility and they're all natives of Orange County.
To mark their forthcoming arrival in the UK the band have made a track ('Strings') from their forthcoming debut album available now to stream via Soundcloud. You can have a listen to it here.
After the self-released 'Shake My Hand EP' in the US last year, a newfound following saw Young The Giant attract considerable A&R attention. Following opening slots for the Whigs and Kings of Leon at Chicago's House of Blues and a pit stop at South by Southwest, they eventually signed with Roadrunner in the US.
Between time spent cutting their touring teeth, the band began work on their upcoming debut album with producer Joe Chiccarelli, whose work for artists like the White Stripes, the Raconteurs and My Morning Jacket they admired (My Morning Jacket's Bo Koster actually guests on several of the album's tracks). Tracking most of the songs live at Sunset Sound and Kingsize Studio in LA with Chiccarelli and mixing at Electric Lady Studios in NYC with Michael Brauer (Coldplay, My Morning Jacket), Young the Giant have spent the past few months further touring the US, with dates upcoming with Cold War Kids and Neon Trees.
