Bloc Party's Kele Okereke Writing A Book

Bloc Party frontman Kele Okereke has announced that he will be moving to New York in order to finish his first book. Although no details have been confirmed by the singer as of yet, the project is thought to be a collection of erotic short stories.

In a recent interview with NME the singer said: "I'm moving to Manhattan in the next couple of weeks. I'm writing a book and I want to go somewhere and finish it."

It is believed that the project is a continuation of the writing that the reserved singer began in 2009. He described the project at the time in an interview with Eye Magazine: "I'm just finishing a collection of short stories. By the end of next week I want to finish them all so I can start looking at putting them out. I wrote them in 2009 when we were touring. There's just nothing to do when you're on the road all the time, so it's good to do something to engage my mind. We can expect some totally sexually charged material. We can expect some naming and shaming of celebrities as well. It's gonna be hot.”

In a separate interview last summer the singer also referred to his writing project as an "erotic memoir detailing my experiences with groupies over the last five years".

Bloc Party have been on hiatus since late 2009, a rest which was originally planned to last around a year. However, with news of Okereke’s current plans it would appear that the band are in no rush to resume things as they were. Okerele caused controversy during his debut solo show last year by referring to Bloc Party as a “band [he] used to be in”, though the band were seen together this Christmas and have announced that a reunion will be on the cards (eventually).
