tUnE-yArDs, the solo project of California-based lo-fi artist Merrill Garbus, is to release her second album ‘w h o k i l l’ on 18th April. The album is the follow-up to her 2009 debut ‘BiRd BrAiNs’, which included the track ‘Real Live Flesh’. Watch the video below.
‘BiRd BrAiNs’ received a number of praising reviews upon its release in 2009. Garbus toured the album extensively throughout 2009 and 2010 before going on to record ‘w h o k i l l’. In a recent interview with Pitchfork, she spoke about how the new album brought in elements of her live shows: “People kept saying, ‘Oh, I wish your recordings were more like your live show.’ But the stubborn, contrarian impulse in me wanted to rebel against their desires a little bit. I have no interest in making a live album. But, at the same time, I wanted to record it better than I had been able to record the last album. So I went into a real studio with a real engineer and real microphones.”
The album’s release will coincide with a North American tour. European live dates are expected to be announced later this month.
