Michael Jackson did not sing for the episode of ‘The Simpsons’ in which he appeared as a mental patient, it has been discovered. Contrary to belief, the singer was in fact impersonated for a song which appeared on the classic episode of the cartoon, as confirmed by the actress voicing Lisa Simpson
Yeardley Smith, who is the voice actress behind one of the most recognisable faces on the planet - Lisa Simpson, has revealed this week that Jackson was unable to perform the episode’s closing number ‘Happy Birthday Lisa’ after being blocked Sony Records, who he was signed to at the time.
According to TMZ.com, Jackson himself hand-picked an impersonator named Kipp Lennon, who went on to provide Jackson’s singing voice in the US miniseries 'The Jacksons: An American Dream'. Lennon was hired to imitate Jackson’s singing voice, even contributing to the small sections of 'Billie Jean' and 'Ben' featured in the 1991 episode.
Fans commemorated the second anniversary of Michael Jackson’s death earlier this week. The iconic singer passed away on June 15th 2009. Meanwhile, it was recently announced that the singer’s estate is financially stable once again after earning over $300 million in the two year’s after Jackson’s death.
