Wolf Gang - The King and All His Men (Single Review)

There is almost nothing not to like about Wolf Gang’s new single The King and All Of His Men. Following on from previous singles Lions in Cages and Dancing With The Devil, Wolf Gang further demonstrates his talent for writing great pop songs.
Wolf Gang’s sound appears to be the result of many influences. Upon first listen, the King and All of His Men sounds like the Killers fronted by Brian Ferry. Elsewhere, the influence of MGMT and David Bowie seems apparent given the song’s melodramatic soundscape, incredibly infectious melody and slick production.
The song begins with verses led by sunny piano chords as Wolf Gang swoons ‘And if you're dealin' a line of cards / Won't you take me to the queen of hearts’. The stripped back verses give way to a relentless chorus where the sunny keyboards are joined by pounding drums, swirling synths and soaring vocal melodies. As the song surges to its epic end complete with tribal drums and choral harmonies, its easy to conclude that it would be a terrible injustice for this song not to be placed on Radio 1’s A Playlist any time soon.
The King and All of His Men cements Wolf Gang as a serious contender to break into the mainstream in 2011. This single, along with his previous releases, show an artist with the ability to craft pop songs that are infectious and intelligent. Hopefully the mainstream will greet Wolf Gang with open arms as his talent deserves a far greater recognition.
