Big Country to Release Their First Single in 12 Years This Month

On 29th August, Scottish rockers Big Country will release ‘Another Country’ – the band’s first single in 12 years and their first to feature new vocalist Mike Peters, the former singer with The Alarm. Later this week, Big Country will be playing headlining dates in Wrexham and Lincoln before making an appearance at this weekend’s V Festivals – see below for dates and tickets.

For the new single ‘Another Country’, Big Country were reunited with Grammy Award-winning producer Steve Lillywhite, who previously worked with the band on their first two albums ‘The Crossing’ and ‘Steeltown’. Speaking about the track, Lillywhite said: “When I heard the demo of ‘Another Country’, I was immediately impressed. It was great to work with Big Country again - a band whom I last worked with in the ‘80s, when producing on one of my favourite albums, ‘The Crossing’. I am looking forward to working with them once again on their new album.”

Big Country bassist Tony Butler said: “To have the opportunity to release our first single in over 12 years, considering what we have been through, is amazing. To work with Steve Lillywhite again was tremendous. There is something really exciting about entering the world of singles again.”

Big Country were originally founded in Dunfermline by Stuart Adamson, the former frontman with punk band The Skids. They achieved a number of Top 10 singles during the ‘80s and their second album ‘Steeltown’ reached Number One in the UK Albums Chart. Unfortunately, tragedy struck in 2001, when Adamson took his own life. The rest of the band reformed in 2007 for a reunion tour in their late singer’s memory and, last year, they announced that they would be reuniting once again, with The Alarm’s Mike Peters joining them on vocals.

Big Country UK & Ireland Tour Dates are as follows:

Thu August 18th 2011 - Central Station, Wrexham
Fri August 19th 2011 - Engine Shed, Lincoln
