American film director David Lynch – known best for classics such as ‘The Elephant Man’, ‘Eraserhead’, ‘Blue Velvet’ and ‘Twin Peaks’ – is to make his musical debut on 7th November with the release of his first solo album ‘Crazy Clown Time’. The album features 14 original songs that are written, performed and produced by Lynch. The track ‘Pinky’s Dream’ includes guest vocals by Karen O of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs.
Although David Lynch is known better for his visionary and often surreal films, including ‘Mulholland Drive’ and ‘Wild at Heart’, he has previously made a number of musical contributions to several of the soundtracks for his own features. In addition to this, he has also collaborated with artists such as Sparklehorse and Danger Mouse on their 2010 album ‘Dark Night of the Soul’. However, it wasn’t until last year, with the release of the singles ‘I Know’ and ‘Good Day Today’ – both of which are included on the album – that Lynch first released his own solo efforts.
Speaking about the album, Lynch said: “The love of experimenting with sound and music is what was driving this boat. All of the songs on the album started as a jam. The jams eventually found a form and lyrics appeared.”
