Lostprophets - O2 Academy, Bournemouth - 16th August 2011 (Live Review)

It’s been 10 years since Lostprophets debuted with the first album ‘thefakesoundofprogress’. A lot has changed since then, including the departure of founding band member Mike Chiplin but the nu-metallers from South Wales have kept hold of their most prized asset, high octane in your face rock and the ability to seamlessly cross over into pop friendly rock with tracks such as ‘Last Train Home’ and ‘Rooftops’.

It’s been over 18 months since their last album ‘The Betrayed’ and although their return to the live scene is somewhat overdue the boys from the valleys showed no signs of rustiness as they produced a tight and at times frighteningly powerful set to a packed out Bournemouth O2.

The boys have been busy too, recording their Fifth studio album in Hollywood with producer Ken Andrews. The Lostprophets have come a long way from Pontypridd but they sure as hell still know how to keep it raw and real and keep an audience bouncing as was evidence last night in Bournemouth, crowd favourites such as ‘Rooftops’ and ‘Last Summer’ whipping the crowd into a sweat soaked, mosh induced frenzy of flailing arms and flying beer.

The band have promised that the forthcoming album will encompass all the sounds and experiences that they have developed over their long carer, an album reminiscent of the chaos of their early work mixed with an expression of newfound maturity and growth. Add to that the tempo and adrenaline inducing nature of last nights gig and the Lostprophets fifth album promises to be something very special.
