Ed Sheeran Tops UK Albums Chart With ‘+’

Monday, 19 September 2011 Written by James Conlon

Acoustic songsmith Ed Sheeran has gone straight to Number One in the UK albums chart with his debut LP ‘+’. The songwriter, who is known for his home-grown fanbase achieved through the release of five independent LPs, managed to reach the top spot this week after knocking Example from Number One.

Example’s ‘Playing In The Shadows’ sinks down to Number Three, while Adele’s ‘21’ holds on to the Number Two position in the charts, posing the simple question – after breaking chart records one at a time, who still doesn’t own a copy of that album?

Other new entries in the top ten include Laura Marling’s third LP ‘A Creature I Don’t Know’ at Number Four and The Kooks ‘Junk Of My Heart’ which earns the final spot in the top ten.

In terms of the UK singles chart, ‘X Factor’ boyband One Direction have topped the chart with their debut release ‘What Makes You Beautiful’. The teen singers keep Maroon 5 (feat. Christina Aguilera) from the Number One position, also knocking last week’s Number One pixie Lott down to third with ‘All About Tonight’.
