It’s been a week of record breaking for R&B star Rihanna - last Wednesday, she released her new single ‘We Found Love ft. Calvin Harris’ – after she began her record breaking 10-show stint at London’s O2 Arena.
It reached the #1 position on iTunes that same day and stormed straight to the top spot on the UK's official single chart despite having only been on sale for 4 days. ‘We Found Love’ clocked up 87,000 sales in just over half a week and meant Rihanna has scored a phenomenal six #1’s in five consecutive years, a record unequalled by any other female solo artist. The single is the first to be taken from Rihanna’s new album ‘Talk That Talk’, which hits shelves on November 21st.
And the Barbados-born superstar shows no sign of slowing down. Her fifth album, ‘Loud’, has now sold more in the UK than any other territory in the world. It has already reached 1.7 million sales and still continues to grace the top 25 nearly a year after its release. ‘Loud’ spawned the #1 singles ‘Only Girl (In the World)’ and ‘What's My Name’. 2010 was also the year that saw her passing the landmark of 10 million records sold in the UK and picking up her first BRIT Award.
‘We Found Love is Rihanna's’ 20th Top 20 single in the UK - the first of which was the worldwide smash ‘Pon De Replay’ back in 2005. Rihanna also broke records in 2007 when she scored the longest-running #1 single since 1994 with ‘Umbrella’, topping the UK chart for a 10th week and equalling Whitney Houston’s record for weeks at #1 of any female artist in history.
And if all those records, feats and achievements weren’t enough, Rihanna is also the most followed female singer on Facebook - with over 45million fans.
