Californian indie duo Mazzy Star have announced the release of ‘Common Burn’/‘Lay Myself Down’, their first single in 15 years, on 31st October. The new tracks will be released through the band’s own Rhymes Of An Hour Records as a digital download and will be followed later by a 7” release.
The last singles that Mazzy Star released were taken from their 1996 album ‘Among My Swan’. However, the duo recently entered the UK Singles Chart with their track ‘Into Dust’, 18 years after its original release, when the song appeared in a trailer for the game ‘Gears Of War 3’. ‘Into Dust’ was originally included on the band’s second album ‘So Tonight That I Might See’.
Mazzy Star were formed in Santa Monica, California in 1989 by guitarist David Roebuck and singer Hope Sandoval. In 1990, they released their debut album ‘She Hangs Brightly’. Since the release of their third album ‘Among My Swan’ in 1996, the two members of Mazzy Star have worked on separate projects. Sandoval has made several vocal contributions on releases by other artists such as The Jesus and Mary Chain, The Chemical Brothers and Massive Attack.
Following the release of ‘Common Burn’/‘Lay Myself Down’, Mazzy Star will return to performing live in 2012 before the release of their long-awaited fourth album.
