UK punk legends The Damned are to have their story told in a new feature-length documentary from one of the makers of the recent ‘Lemmy’ movie. New York-based film producer and director Wes Orshoski recently joined The Damned for the start of their 35th Anniversary Tour, during which he will be capturing footage of the band to use in the film.
On the current tour, which reaches the UK next month, The Damned are celebrating their 35th anniversary by playing their 1997 debut ‘Damned Damned Damned’ in full, as well as 1980’s ‘The Black Album’. See below for tour dates and tickets.
Last year, Wes Orshoski released ‘Lemmy’, the critically-acclaimed documentary about legendary Motorhead frontman Lemmy Kilmister, which he co-directed and produced with Greg Olliver. The film featured interviews with the likes of Dave Grohl, Slash, Ozzy Osborne and Alice Cooper, as well as with Lemmy himself. Speaking about his latest project, Orshoski said: “I’m incredibly honored to be working with a band who I feel has registered as an immeasurable impact on artists from across the musical spectrum. I feel like The Damned’s story and the scope of the band’s influence has gone largely unnoticed by the masses, especially in America. And I’m hoping my film will help right that wrong.”
Speaking about the film, guitarist and founding member Captain Sensible said: “It seems like every other scumbag who was ever in a punk band got a film made about them. Now it’s our turn, and at least we have some real stories to tell. Hopefully, this will cause a bit of a stink, but that’s what it was always supposed to do.”
Orshoski is asking longtime fans of the band who may be in possession of vintage video and photos (as well as rare handbills, posters and/or magazine articles) to email him at: info@threecountfilms.com
