Nu-metal dubstep crossover band Korn have posted a video on YouTube which showcases samples of each of the songs from their new album, which will see them join elements from nu-metal and dubstep together for the first time.
‘The Path of Totality’ is the band’s latest LP, and hits shelves on Monday. The record has been getting a mixed response from fans all over the world – old school Korn fans are unhappy at the band’s new electronic sound, which they gained from working with producers such as Skrillex, Excision and Downlink, while some of the younger generations of listeners have praised their decision to modernise and update themesleves. The video is embedded below – so let us know what you think; are Korn pioneering what will become a great and healthy new genre? Or are they creating an abomination of their nu-metal sound and Skrillex’s bro-step sound?
Speaking to press yesterday, frontman Jonathan Davis claimed that he thought Korn were actually a dubstep band – even in the years before dubstep even existed.
He said: “We were dubstep before there was dubstep. Tempos at 140 with half-time drums, huge bassed-out riffs. We used to bring out 120 subwoofers and line them across the whole front of the stage, 60 subs per side. We were all about the bass.
“These kids are onto something completely innovative and new. It's pure and awesome and underground and heavy and different, not like stale-ass metal and rock'n'roll. I love them all, but the old-school metalheads are not open to change.”
