Grammy Award-winning punk rock trio Green Day have announced the release of re-issues of their first two albums, 1990’s ‘39/Smooth’ and 1992’s ‘Kerplunk’. Both albums will be available from 20th December on limited-edition black and white vinyl for the first time in over a decade and will be released exclusively though Epitaph Europe’s merchandise company Kings Road Merch.
The reissue of ‘39/Smooth’ will be bundled together with Green Day’s debut EP ‘1,000 Hours’ from 1989, as well as the ‘Slappy’ EP from the following year. ‘Kerplunk’ will also include the band’s ‘Sweet Children’ EP, which features a cover of The Who’s ‘My Generation’.
Although Green Day did not achieve worldwide success until the release of their third album ‘Dookie’ in 1994, their first two albums have since become much-loved favourites amongst fans. The band’s debut album ‘39/Smooth’ was originally released in 1990 and was later included on the compilation album ‘1,039/Smoothed Out Slappy Hours’ alongside tracks from their ‘Slappy’ and ‘1,000 Hours’ EPs.
Green Day’s second album ‘Kerplunk’ has been certified Platinum in the US since its 1992 release and has sold over four-million copies worldwide. The album includes the original version of Green Day’s 1994 hit single ‘Welcome to Paradise’. The band occasionally feature songs from both albums in their live setlist to this day.
