Grinderman Announce Split At Australian Festival

Grinderman Split At Australian Festival

Australian singer-songwriter-musician Nick Cave has apparently called time on his side-project band Grinderman.

The frontman, who started Grinderman with the members of his band Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds as a way “to escape the weight of The Bad Seeds,” told the crowd of an Australian music festival that the band was ‘over.’

The announcement was so subtle and short that much of the crowd at the Meredith Music Festival in Victoria were unsure whether Cave was actually being serious or not, and it is still unclear if the break-up is 100% true.

The band simply finished their set at the festival, which was their last gig on their native Australian tour, by telling the crowd: “That's it for Grinderman. It's over. See you all in another 10 years when we'll be even older and uglier.”

The band were one of the most successfully reviewed bands of their time, releasing just two albums which both received absolutely rave reviews – the most recent being 2010’s Grinderman 2, which received 5 stars from The Independent and 9/10 from Spin.
