Electronic and house producing icon deadmau5 woke up to rumours that he had died yesterday morning, after pranksters edited his Wikipedia article to read that he had died of alcohol intoxication and exhaustion.
The superstar, who famously performs in a cartoon mouse head costume, had played at the 2011 Spike Video Game Awards on Saturday night, and, as you can expect after a big performance, went on for a few drinks. But, when he woke up the next morning, it turned out that he had apparently drunk himself to death – with an Australian music website reporting about his death.
The altered Wikipedia entry read: “On December 11, 2011, a day after performing at the 2011 Spike Video Game Awards Joel collapsed in his hotel room in Los Angeles due to exhaustion and apparent Alcohol intoxication.
“After friends attempted to enter his room but were unable to get a response, they reportedly called his phone, then asked management to open the door after he didn't answer. They found him on the floor, not breathing. He was subsequently rushed to the emergency room and pronounced dead on arrival.”
The producer and DJ did take the rumour in a good way, although it was the third death rumour he has faced this year alone, tweeting “whats actually gunny tho... is that i did get pretty wasted last night. (sic)”.
He later took to his Facebook to continue on about the rumours, writing: “Once again, extremely disappointed by the insanely uncreative death rumor, thought we had all agreed on acid spitting koala's skydiving and volcano? oh well... still glad to see some 'press' taking this shit seriously.”
deadmau5 is playing two UK and Ireland dates next summer. If you’re a fan and wish to attend, check the dates and details below.
