Superstar soul singer Adele probably thought she’d had her fair share of weeks at the top of the albums chart, but she managed to take pole position once again this weekend, making it the 21st non-consecutive week that appropriately titled ‘21’ has sat at #1.
The resurgence, which saw her return to the top after finishing last week at #3, came after the star picked up two BRIT Awards last Tuesday – and flipped her middle finger at the crowd after her acceptance speech was cut short.
And, if one goes up, one must come down – meaning Emeli Sandé’s debut album release ‘Our Version of Events’ goes down to #2, while Ed Sheeran’s super-selling debut album ‘+’ sits at #3. Lana Del Rey’s ‘Born to Die’ and Gotye’s ‘Making Mirror’s complete the top 5, hitting #4 and #5 respectively.
The singles chart sees Gotye at #1 with ‘Somebody I Used to Know’, while Emeli Sandé’s ‘Next to Me’ and DJ Fresh’s ‘Hot Right Now’ take up #2 and #3. Flo Rida’s ‘Wild Ones’ managed to climb one position to #4, while David Guetta’s ‘Titanium’ adds to the presence of dance in the charts at #5.
The BRIT Awards helped a number of artists climb back into the charts, with Blur’s ‘The Best Of’ resurfacing at #22 in the albums chart whilst Coldplay’s ‘Charlie Brown’ went up to #30.
