Damon Albarn has unveiled ‘The Marvelous Dream’, the latest track to come from his brand new concept album ‘Dr Dee’, as well as a static music video for the song which you can view below.
‘Dr Dee’ will be released by Parlophone Records on May 7th and contains 18 tracks of songs and music inspired by the life of John Dee – mathematician, polymath and advisor to Elizabeth I. Described by Albarn as 'strange pastoral folk', Dr Dee is a fitting companion to the end of another Elizabethan age.
The album combines Albarn's voice with early English choral and instrumentation alongside modern, West African and Renaissance sounds and was recorded late last year in Albarn's West London studio, and also in Salford with the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra.
The music was created to feature as the original soundtrack to an opera of the same name, which Albarn produced alongside Gorillaz partner Jamie Hewlett. The opera ran from July 1st-9th last year, with the Daily Telegraph describing it as “fresh, original and heartfelt.”
