The Smiths Reforming For 2013 Shows?

Strong rumours that iconic 80s group The Smiths will be reforming are circulating today, with several sources seemingly confirming that at least three of the four will be reuniting for four 2013 dates.

While speculation of a Smiths return has been ripe ever since they split back in 1987, there has been a massive surge in news flying around today, with Glastonbury 2013 an apparently set-in-stone gig for the band.

The rumours are so strong, in fact, that some are no longer questioning the news and are simply wondering whether Mike Joyce will join Morrissey, Johnny Marr, and Andy Rourke for the much talked-about dates next year.

Along with Glastonbury, it seems Coachella Festival is also a pencilled in for a landmark Smiths performance, with Morrissey revealing that the festival previously offered $5million - and to make the whole event meat-free - in return for a reunion of just Marr and himself.

“Interestingly the agents for Coachella offered a 100% vegetarian event if I would agree to headline with Johnny Marr as the Smiths,” he told the Australian Herald. “Fascinatingly they made it clear that they would 'not require' the Smiths' bass player or drummer... which I thought certainly said something.”

The strongest rumours suggest that V Festival and a Manchester show are the likeliest of the two remaining dates. What would your guesses be? Let us know in the comments section below.

The Streets’ Mike Skinner was quick to pick up on the rumours - and maybe has some inside knowledge from the band too. Check this tweet he posted this morning:
