Five years have passed since Juice WRLD’s death but with ‘The Party Never Ends’ his legacy is still shining. The rapper’s third posthumous release is as poignant as it is hotly-anticipated following years of leaks and slow-moving progress behind the scenes. Its quality ensures a bittersweet send off.

Stewarded by the G-Money label, ‘The Party Never Ends’ is almost Juice WRLD’s personal memorial, pulling together the themes and contradictions that made him an enigma and star within the crowded halls of Soundcloud rap. At 19 tracks it’s a long ride, but it’s worth it.

While 2021’s ‘Fighting Demons’ explored unsparing themes such as depression and drug dependency, ‘The Party Never Ends’ is more concerned with juxtaposition. It immaculately combines uplifting themes of partying and sex with thoughts on anxiety and feelings of unfulfillment.

Misfit is dark and haunting but also a surefire hit, telling of a drug related near miss prior to Juice’s death from an accidental overdose. “Went to L.A., almost missed my flight twice / I was off the Xans that night, right / Almost died on 'em, that's the last flight / I was pretty cool in my last life,” he relays.

AGATS2 (Insecure), a collab with Nicki Minaj and Halsey, is another success and their sublime interplay on the track is truly something to remember. Lace It is a typically raw remembrance of talents lost due to substance abuse, while The Kid LAROI’s Goodbye is another fitting, heartfelt tribute.

Despite ‘The Party Never Ends’ coming in at more than 56 minutes, it is an effortless listen throughout. In stripping things back and laying everything bare, Juice WRLD’s place as a compelling artist with a unique outlook has been assured for many years to come.
