Cody ChesnuTT Announces 2013 London Show & Tickets

Following two emotional one-man shows in London in September which previewed new material and included a headline date at The Jazz Café, Cody ChesnuTT is set to return to London’s Bush Hall on Monday 18th March with his 9-piece band. Ahead of this you can catch him on ‘Later with Jools Holland’, on November 2nd.

Heralded by a full-blown tower of 60’s/70’s soul in the Curtis/Marvin tradition, 'Landing On A Hundred' (October 29th), is Cody ChesnuTT’s first full album of new material in a decade. Universally acclaimed for his edgy, sprawling Shortlist Prize nominated 2002 debut, 'The Headphone Masterpiece', Cody ChesnuTT re-emerges as a soul troubadour whose frank, socially conscious songs set the bar for what modern soul music can look and sound like: On every level – rhythm, song, subject matter, spirit – 'Landing On A Hundred' delivers massively, it’s message upbeat even as it reflects upon troubled times. Says Cody: “This body of work is extremely meaningful to me - it represents the journey I have been on since I last released an album. Words cannot describe or express how excited I am about this music.”

Following a period of family-man retreat and reflection after his meteoric rise to near stardom via The Roots retooled worldwide hit, 'The Seed 2.0', 'Landing On A Hundred'’s vivid vingnettes sketch out a man’s road to redemption after years of womanizing, and the power and labour of slow-burning marital love that eclipses mere material expressions of affection.

The title is a reference to the slang saying, “Keeping It One Hundred,” or telling the whole truth, and for lovers of true blue Southern soul this new album is a must-have — the rhythm tracks recorded with a ten-piece band in Memphis-based Royal Studios, the sonic birthplace of some of the deepest works by soul and blues luminaries like Al Green, Buddy Guy and Ike and Tina Turner. “The original tracks were cut on two-inch tape,” Cody explains. “My hands were tingling because I got to sing on the actual microphone that Al Green recorded with. Nothing has changed. The down-home acoustic treatments are still in place.”
