Winners For The 2012 Music Video Awards Are Announced

Now in its fifth year, the UK Music Video Awards held in London’s Leicester Square in the Empire Cinema host over 30 categories to award, covering huge international artists alongside up and coming talent. This years nominations were artists such as Jay-Z, Calvin Harris, Plan B, Bonobo, Gorillaz and Frank Ocean among more.

Last night British Artists were seen scooping awards at the prestigious event, singer-songwriter M.I.A saw her video for “Bad Girls”, directed by Romain Gavras, pick up The Video Of The Year award as well as Best Pop Video and Best Styling In A Video. Romain Gavras also picked up the award for Best Director. Director Daniel Wolfe picked up the Best UK Dance Video for the second year running for The Shoes single “Time To Dance”, which was also awarded Best Editing In A Video and saw producer Lee Groombridge honoured the Best Director award.

However, The Shoes weren’t the only French band to come home with an award. Justice was among other winners, with video for “New Lands” won Best Art Direction and Design in a Video and Woodkid collected the award for Best Visual Effects In A Video. Director of Woodkid, Yoann Lemoine, was also awarded Best International Pop Video for controversial pop-singer Lana Del Rey’s “Born To Die” video.

Other winners include actor Aidan Gillen who presented The Icon Award to Jamie Thraves after a 14 year long career working with names such as Radiohead, Blur, Coldplay and The Verve. Tributes last night to Jamie included messages from Travis, Alex James and Kristina Train. David Knight was also honoured with an Outstanding Contribution award for his 20 year dedication to the promotion of music video makers and their work.

The public-voted category saw One Direction honoured with The People’s Choice Award in association with VEVO for “Live While We’re Young”. UK Music Video Awards editorial director David Knight said, “The UK Music Video Awards celebrates the range of excellence in music videos, and there's been some fantastic videos to celebrate this year. We honour the people who make them, and the winners at the MVAs this year show that the medium is as vibrant as ever as an art form, a promotional tool for music, and as pure entertainment.”
