Rizzle Kicks - O2 Academy, Newcastle - 1st December (Live Review)

It's been an outstanding 12 months for Rizzle Kicks. They have released countless hits from their debut album 'Stereo Typical' and have performed all over the UK. Now Jordan and Harley have embarked on their debut tour and tonight the show rolled into Newcastle.

The show itself was sold out and you could feel the buzz in the air as soon as you walked into the Academy. Rizzle Kicks were supported by two acts that were called Little Nikki and Mikill Pane. As soon as Little Nikki hit the stage, the crowd was bouncing as the venue filled with fans. The 16-year-old has already toured with Rita Ora and certainly knew how to get the crowd hyped-up considering that the venue was far from full when she took to the stage.

Next up to hit the stage was Mikill Pane. Mikill has already worked with Ed Sheeran, Paloma Faith and Example. He has also featured with Rizzle Kicks on a track on his EP. Mikill just seemed to pick up where Little Nikki left off and continued to hype-up the crowd. He was even invited back on stage later on in the show to collaborate with Rizzle Kicks on his track entitled ‘Work’.

As soon as Rizzle Kicks arrived on stage, the crowd never stopped jumping - neither did Harley or Jordan which set the tone for the remainder of the night. The energy that was oozing from the boys was incredible.

The boys treated the crowd to a cover of Ed Sheeran's 'You Need Me, I Don’t Need You' as well as a rendition of the Bond theme. Jordan and Harley also performed brief covers of ‘You Gotta Fight For Your Right’ as well as ‘Get Ready For This’.

Showcasing new track ‘That’s Classic’, future releases from the Brighton duo look set to have a more mature sound. Fan favourites ‘Down With The Trumpets’ and ‘Dreamers’ were also received really well by the excited young crowd. 'Mama Do The Hump' was by far the song that was very close to tearing the roof off. Everyone in the venue was dancing and singing along as Jordan and Harley bounced from each side of the stage busting dance moves that were made famous by the song's accompanying music video.

Overall, this has to be one of the best live gigs that I have ever been to at Newcastle's O2 Academy. The atmosphere was electric and the place was bouncing from start to finish. The energy and charisma the boys showed throughout the performance was outstanding.
