March 4th sees the publication of “The Lyrics of Kele Okereke" by The Lyric Book Company as part of the “Lyrics of…” series.
If you're not familiar with Kele Okereke, he is the voice behind one of Britain’s most well loved and successful indie bands; Bloc Party. The band first hit the scene in early 2000, garnering a reputation as being fiercely intelligent and independent. With well over 3 million albums sold worldwide, Bloc Party have gone on to experience Worldwide recognition and fame, helped in part by Okereke’s enigmatic and emotional lyrics.
Taking influences from classical literature, rave culture, religious texts and East London street slang, Kele’s irresistibly idiosyncratic lyricism has developed over the years and has become something of an instrument in its own right. It is only fitting that Okereke’s unique lyrics are brought together for the first time in this beautiful volume. Containing all of Bloc Party’s impressive canon plus Kele’s solo material.
Speaking about the book, Kele comments: em>“It is quite an honour to see all these lyrics in their correct forms bound in such an exquisite book. Its truly humbling and I hope these words move the readers as much as I have been moved writing them."
