Country pop superstar Taylor Swift has become embroiled in a legal battle with the organisers of Capital Hoedown, who are demanding she pay back the $2.5million fee she was given following the festival’s cancellation.
The singer-songwriter and musician was paid the hefty headliners fee upfront, but because of “several unforeseen operating obstacles”, the festival was cancelled in July last year. Now, with $1.8million worth of ticket refunds to get through, organisers are fighting to get back their $2.5million from Taylor Swift.
The team behind the festival have now filed a lawsuit in New York, and want Swift to cover the bill of paying back all of their disappointed fans. While it’s fair to say that Swift had nothing to do with the cancellation, she also did nothing to earn the money either, so it’ll be interesting to see how the whole thing pans out.
Should Swift be made to pay the bill only, she’d still have a cool $800,000 left over for a total 0 hours of work, and if she doesn’t foot it, the future of the festival - which hopes to return this year - may be in doubt. What’s your opinion on the story - should Swift pay up, or is the money rightfully hers to keep? Let us know in the comment section below.
