Luke Stidson - the man behind Somerset indie-folk and electronic outfit Twin Falls - has posted a lengthy statement on his website accusing Dashboard Confessional frontman Chris Carrabba of ‘stealing’ his ‘identity’.
Stidston has been using the Twin Falls moniker since 2008, and has slowly but surely been building a name for himself across the UK - releasing debut album ‘Slow Numb’ in 2011, and earning a spot on the BBC Radio One playlist with it’s lead single ‘Janie I Will Only Let You Down’.
But, he was apparently recently contacted by ‘Rich Egan of Hard8 Management’ (who represents Carrabba), who told him that a lawyer would be in touch - as Carrabba is planning to start a brand new band using the same name.
Posting about the ordeal in a lengthy statement on his website, Stidson told of how he argued with the laywer and Egan himself about who would be using the name.
The statement is too lengthy to post in this story, but long story short, Stidson became embroiled in a war of e-mails with the Egan, with the lawyer confirming that neither party could trademark the name as it is a place/location name.
The problem appears to remain unsolved as of yet, though Stidson believes that if it comes down to a court case, the ‘person who has the most money and therefore the resource to fight their case to the bitter end, will win’ - and he is not a wealthy man.
What do you think of the story - is Carrabba in the wrong, and should Stidson be allowed to continue to use the name?
