Be A Hero With Einstein's Garden At Green Man Festival 2013!

Monday, 29 April 2013 Written by David Ball

With 2013’s music line up filling out nicely, and Chai Wallah’s plans for their area announced recently, it’s now time to turn our attention to Green Man Festival's ‘Einstein’s Garden’ area. Always a massively popular spot for families attending the festival, located near the Walled Garden stage, Einstein's Garden provides all sorts of brain bending science and nature activities.

This year there will be over 100 performances including live comedy, music, theatre, educational walks and talks and interactive installations set across three stages all of which are sustainably powered!

The theme of this years area is ‘Heroes’ with a celebration of everything from super heroes and cult heroes to heroes of the animal kingdom and Greek Gods, not forgetting of course scientific heroes like Albert Einstein himself.

Below are a few of the things you can expect if you pay a visit to this free thinking haven of exploration and experimentation;

Hormone Harmony
Meet the gods and heroes of Ancient Greece and discover how hormones affect our lives in an interactive performance supported by The Physiological Society.

Ugly Animal Preservation Society
Superb stand-up comedy with a conservational twist as a terrific line-up of top comedians each champion one of Mother Nature’s unsung heroes!

Cracking the Code - The Genetics of Superheroes
What are real mutants like? Could genetics make us superhuman? Biologist and TV presenter Simon Watt investigates the science behind superheroes.

Mimina: For All Mankind
Witness the pioneering heroes of space as you’ve never seen them before with an atmospheric re-scoring of dramatic 1960s Apollo moon mission footage.

After Hours at the Pole Star Club
Experience some truly cosmic storytelling from Christine Watkins, the universe-mapping artist Maria Hayes and vocal violinist extraordinaire Sianed Jones.

Zombie Science
Join Theoretical Zombiologist Doctor Austin for a spoof multimedia tutorial exploring the real science behind a gruesome Zombie epidemic.

Science Showoff
This anarchic science cabaret sees the UK’s brainiest performers attempt to blow your mind before the Showometer counts down and they get kicked off the stage.

Being 747 present The Evolution of Science pt 2: ‘THE INVISIBLE STUFF’
The intrepid Yorkshire “EduPop’ trio continue their ambitious attempt to map the history of science through the medium of jaunty rock music.

PLUS! A Cappella - The Improvised Musical, Bert Miller & The Animal Folk, Bright Club, Buzz Words & The Bee Ceilidh, Minima, Mogees, Paul Mosley, Nuala Honan, Polly & The Billets Doux, Rattle Tales, Science Showoff, Sculpting Nature with Mike Hartley, The Incurable Imagination of Anthony Jones, The Rise of the Insect Superpowers, Why We Die and the ever popular Wildlife Walks!

With arguably the most spectacular festival site anywhere in the UK, set in Wales’ black mountains near the Brecon Beacons, Green Man Festival has retained all of it’s character and incredible value for money due to being independently run (you can read more in our interview with Fiona Stewart here.)

2013 sees Brit award winner Ben Howard, the rarely touring Kings Of Convenience and the spectacular Band Of Horses headlining the mountain stage with hundreds of other great acts across three music stages throughout the weekend. With comedy, literature, cinema and the friendliest vibe of any festival there’s something here for everyone. Even better, prices have remarkably been kept at the same level as last year offering tremendous value. For further information, head over to greenman.net.
