Kodaline - O2 Shepherd's Bush Empire, London - November 10 2013 (Live Review)

Kodaline haven’t quite achieved household name status just yet, but it’s more than likely that you’ve heard their songs, either through regular radio play, an episode of Grey’s Anatomy or even as the background music to Google’s Zeitgeist 2012 video.
Despite the band making sweet music together for a number of years, it’s only this year that people are finally sitting up and taking notice. With a recent #3 UK album, ‘In A Perfect World’, under their belts, the Dublin-based rock band hit the road. The tour’s London date just happened to be a sold out show at the legendary Shepherd’s Bush Empire.
Lead singer Stephen Garrigan oozed a mixture of humility and awe when addressing the packed crowd, but when his rich, soulful tone hits the ears, it’s wrapped up neatly in a package of confidence and charisma.
The biggest reactions were unsurprisingly saved for the singles Love Like This and Brand New Day, as well as the fantastic All I Want.
The crowd sung back every word, particularly when Garrigan stepped away from the mic, leaving the fans to take the lead on the chorus of High Hopes, the band’s biggest single success to date.
A clear highlight of the night was also the band’s venture onto the balcony, for a beautiful rendition of Sam Cooke’s Bring It On Home To Me. Accompanied by just an acoustic guitar, their vocals were stunning and harmonies spot on.
Kodaline delivered exactly what was expected of them - a faultless set of emotion, soul and songs that bring either a lump to the throat or a tear to the eye. Today, Shepherd’s Bush. Tomorrow, stadiums are calling.
