Ten Not Out: Brownstock Set To Hit Double Figures

Thursday, 28 August 2014 Written by Adam Holden

Celebrating its 10th staging, Brownstock will return to Morris farm, Essex, this weekend. The event has continued to evolve and develop in the last decade, moving from a friends and family affair to cementing its place in an already congested festival calendar.

Dizzee Rascal, De La Soul and Razorlight will headline, taking the festival into realms far beyond the scene at its inauguration in 2005, where a gathering of just 150 people began its organic rise. For the second year running, Brownstock will have over 6,000 in attendance in 2014.

While the headline acts will be familiar to most festival punters, there’s also plenty going on a little further down the bill. One fine acquisition  for the line up is DJ EZ, who will close the Good Shed stage on Saturday night.

Rising to popularity after his ‘Boiler Room’ set went viral, making him something of a cult figure in the UK’s garage scene, the north Londoner has risen from the pirate radio scene and will serve up some choice selections. Expect an entertaining night of the best garage around.

Elsewhere, the Milk, Pendulum (who will perform a DJ set), Money P, Goldie Lookin’ Chain and Roots Manuva - who is surprisingly hard to come by at UK festivals - will all be present and correct.

De La Soul, meanwhile, are fresh from a magnificently nostalgic performance on Glastonbury’s famous Pyramid Stage earlier this year and will attempt to replicate feeling to the farm on Saturday night. And then there is Dizzee Rascal, who has by his own standards been quiet of late. Arguably the UK’s biggest hip hop artist, he has now five studio albums and a plethora of greatest hits to run through on Friday night. One thing that is for sure is that Dizzee knows how to put on a show, so don’t expect this to be any different.
