Sleater-Kinney have released the title track from their forthcoming album.
‘The Center Won’t Hold’ is due for release on August 16 via Mom+Pop, and sees production from St Vincent. It’ll be the group’s last album with drummer Janet Weiss, who announced her departure earlier this month.
Following up previous cuts Hurry On Home and The Future Is Here, the latest addition to the riot grrl pioneers’ catalogue is a step away from their usual approach. The trio do not introduce guitars into the mix until over two minutes in, instead opting for choppy percussion and a dissonant, angular piano refrain. After the volta, the listener gets an attack on the senses with huge, roaring distortion.
Sleater-Kinney will support the record with a North American tour this fall and shows in the UK, Ireland and Europe in early 2020. Weiss' replacement is yet to be announced.
