Mahalia has shared What You Did, a collaboration with Ella Mai.
As well as featuring the fellow Brit, the smooth new cut contains a sample of Norman Jesse Whitfield's classic hit I'm Going Down and was produced by Grammy-nominated producer Pop Wansel. It finds the pair singing about infidelity. Discussing the collaboration, Mahalia said:
"So this song was actually, it was actually me on my own at first. I wrote it like maybe now almost a year ago with one of my favorite producers, his name is Pop Wansel out in LA. And it was finished, it was done, the album was about to be delivered and then two days before delivery, Ella Mai texts me and she said, 'hey, have you submitted the album?' And I was like, 'I'm about to submit it. Why?' And she just basically was like, I'd love to be a part of it. And so I sent her what you did and then it all happened pretty quickly and then it was literally like hours before delivery. So, yeah, I love it. [We've been friends] about a year. She came to my show in LA around this time last year."
It follows the previously shared Square 1, Simmer featuring Burna Boy, I Wish I Missed My Ex and Do Not Disturb in previewing the Leicester singer's debut album, 'Love and Compromise', which is set to arrive on September 6.
Mahalia will support the record with a previously announced headline UK tour in November. Tickets are on sale now.
