GUM Shares New Single Out In The World

Jay Watson, aka GUM, has shared a new song.

The wobbly, psych-inflected Out In The World serves as the first single from Watson since the release of his fourth LP, ’The Underdog’, in April 2018. It’s accompanied by a lo-fi, Laura Lynn-Petrick-directed video which follows Watson in a fly-on-the-wall style as he explores a string of cities across the US.

Reflecting on the single, he said:

“Out In The World is about wanting to give up and never talk to anyone ever again after something goes wrong. Some people have that feeling all the time - it’s crippling and isolating. It sounds like light coming through half-shut blinds. It’s not possible for all, but for me, I force myself to go out again, or get on stage, or do whatever it is I have to do to keep moving on."

Alongside steadily releasing solo material under the GUM moniker, Watson has continued to work double duty as a touring member of two Aussie psych-rock bands, Tame Impala and Pond. His fifth solo studio album is due later this year, though an official release date is yet to be announced.
