Pet Shop Boys have released a new track.
Crickets Wife is an intricately composed, 10-minute orchestral number created by Chris Lowe and featuring lyrics taken from a poem written by the the other half of the duo, Neil Tennant. It comes paired with a new lockdown version of their hit single West End Girls. Introducing it online, they said:
"The dramatic new song – almost 10 minutes long – features orchestral sounds and was written by Chris as a classical-style instrumental piece; the lyrics, meanwhile, are taken from a poem Neil Tennant had written. Pete Gleadall mixed the final track. The second track is a lockdown version of Pet Shop Boys classic “West End girls”, a completely new version of the classic song which debuted online in June 2020. Both tracks were recorded during the first lockdown last year, with Chris and Neil recording their parts in their respective homes."
The release also coincides with the arrival of the band's 'My Beautiful Launderette' EP on digital platforms for the first time. Lowe and Tennant's last studio album, meanwhile, was 2020's 'Hotspot'.
Pet Shop Boys were forced to reschedule the UK and European leg of their Dreamworld: The Greatest Hits Live Tour for a second time due to COVID-19. They will now hit the road in spring and summer 2022.
