Dermot Kennedy has shared a new single, Better Days.
Arriving via Island Records, the emotional piano-based track finds the Irish singer backed by a Gaelic choir and expressing heavy feelings over anthemic refrains produced by Dan Nigro. Discussing the song, his first solo music since 2020's Giants, he said:
"This is a song about patience. It’s about believing in something brighter, and never losing sight of better days, no matter how hard things might get. In a time where so many people feel worried and exhausted, I would love for this song to remind even one person that things will improve. As an artist, I feel somewhat responsible to try to make people feel a little better, whether that’s making them think of someone they love, or just taking their mind off their problems for the length of a song. So this is my contribution to hopefully providing some people with a moment’s solace. Better days will come."
Kennedy recently rescheduled his Belsonic Belfast show at Ormeau Park to September 19, with an extra concert confirmed for September 18. Original tickets are valid, and the remaining tickets are on sale now.
The singer will take his Better Days Tour to the US this summer, followed by UK stops in Manchester, Glasgow and London, where he'll take over Alexandra Palace for three nights. He also has a run of rearranged Irish gigs in the diary for summer 2022, which were moved due to COVID-19.
His debut LP, 'Without Fear', was released in 2019, followed by an expanded version of the record in November 2020.
