Neil Young To Release 'Bootleg Series' With Debut 1970 Performance At New York's Carnegie Hall

Monday, 23 August 2021 Written by Jon Stickler

Neil Young has announced details of an official bootleg series.

The legendary singer-songwriter has confirmed that the first volume from 'The Neil Young Official Bootleg Series' will be released on October 1 in the form of his debut performance at New York's Carnegie Hall in 1970.

Arriving via Shakey Pictures Records and Reprise Records on double vinyl, CD, and high-res digital audio, the solo acoustic show is the first of two gigs Young played at the venue on December 4 and 5 of that year. The second concert has been available as a bootleg for decades, however, the first show has never been heard before. It took place three months following the release of his third LP, 'After The Gold Rush'.

Mixed from the original analog multitrack tapes by Young and Niko Bolas, the 23-song set includes stripped back versions of Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere, Down By The River, Helpless and Sugar Mountain. As a preview, hear Cowgirl In The Sand below.
